Our Story. Matthew and Kara met their first quarter at SCAD in 2005 through mutual friends. That year consisted of friends hanging out together, meeting at the park to play games, spending time watching movies, homeworking, eating at the SCAD diners, traveling to Beaufort to the drive in movie theater and much more. In the fall of 2006 through God developed circumstances(our first year of living off campus) there was a "girls house" (1840 girls, Julia, Kathleen, Sarah and Kara) and the "boys house" (brian r,brian l, and matt).

Our houses started hanging out a lot, sharing meals together(girls really cooking for the boys) movie nights, worship nights, community + bible study(another amazing story) through there everyday occurrences... attraction grew! ;)

Our first date was in November 2006 where matt took kara to an opera, Madame Butterfly
at the Lucas Theater downtown. This was extra bonus points considering he remembered she LOVES musicals. We had our christmas break and we weren't ready. Little did we know in this "non-dating time" God would be preparing our hearts for a love and adventure beyond our expectations.

On april 27, 2007 with excitement in our hearts we submited to God's will and trust. Trust that whatever the Lord wanted to develop our lives into we would follow. We dated for 2 1/2 years of trusting, seeking, persevering, and loving, and now God has brought our hearts us to the beautiful gift of marriage.

Matthew comes from a proud family of texans specifically El Paso. he grew up in Charleston, SC where he graduated from West Ashley High in 2003. Then took a year off school to be a part of a discipleship training team called year team at St. Andrews Church of Mt. Pleasant through his growth and love of christ - he fell in love with motion graphics and how this art could be used for God's glory in the church. In fall of 2005, he started pursuing this passion at the Savannah College of Art and Design. God had more in store for him than just a degree that he received in may 2009. Currently, matthew is working in dallas for Igniter Media. They specialize in creating graphics, videos, etc. for Churches. right up his ally. We are trusting and praying for this to continue to be his job.

our story
the proposal

- Novemeber 28th 2008
Knowing that Kara is very quick to catch on to surprises Matt had to be very very sneaky! November 28th 2008, the day after thanksgiving while Kara was still asleep Matt asked Kara's father who was in his study early that morning for permission to marry her. The excitement really began as matt, his parents and kara's parent's now knew that he would soon be asking their daughter to marry him.The joy could not be held back! (it was hard not to smile too!)

- Friday April 3rd, 2009
Kara is also very passionate about is leading and serving through bible studies. Meeting with girls and listening to their hearts and wanting to dig deep into God's word. So every friday for 3 years Kara has meet with a group of girls from Country Day High School at Panera before school. Rewind two and a half years to the day they started dating was on a friday after her bible study group. Fast forward back to now. The week prior to the proposal Matt asked Kara if they could go to the St. Thomas Chapel to pray. The chapel is an old rustic, secluded chapel on isle of hope that has become a special place where individually and together we have prayed, worshipped, talked, etc... (Not out of the ordinary for us to be doing). We arrived and got ready to pray at the altar steps. The back wall has a large single stain glass window and hanging over the altar is a wooden cross with a crown. Matt suddenly stood up looking at this and asked me to take a look. At this point, with my back to him, I thought he wanted me to see the light shining through but I could feel his heart pounding! I turned around thinking, "why his heart was pounding so quickly and before I knew it he is talking, getting down on one knee, pulling something out of his pocket, 'oh my gosh' it's a ring and will you marry me?? I obviously responded with an excited and astonished YES!"

what's next
We are getting married on November 28th 2009 and we are so excited to see how God will use us for his kingdom and the adventure we will be embarking on. (we are excited to see what it means to be married and what it means to love each other as christ loved his church) Matt's internship turned into a job at least for 3 more months as to what we know for now. We are excited to be moving to Dallas, TX and starting our lives there. So whether or not matt is working at Igniter we are going to be planting our feet and starting our family and lives in Dallas. Kara is finishing up her last season of coaching volleyball. While in Dallas we are not sure at the moment what she will be doing but we are praying for a place that she can use her passions and gifts. She would love to be using them to create a place of belonging and a place for people, students, families to have somewhere they can come to find refugee.

Kara comes from a proud family of texans - specifically Dallas. She grew up in Lafayette, LA where she graduated from the Episcopal School of Acadiana in 2005. The fall of that same year she started pursuing Historic Preservation and Architecture at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and received her degree at the end of August 2009. While at SCAD she became involved with Young Life. Building many wonderful relationships with girls of savannah and enjoying many trips to Colorado to serve them. Currently she is coaching her final year of high school volleyball at Savannah Country Day aftercoaching for four years.
